Acting Through Song

A 2 hour practical workshop looking at vocal qualities and acting through song. Finding the character, telling the story and making the song truly ‘live’.

The Singing Voice

A 2 hour practical workshop jam-packed with vocal technique and putting it into practice. This workshop is there to help build and refresh your technique and understanding of the voice.

My Healthy Voice

A one hour practical workshop looking at new and improved vocal exercises to develop strength, help with range and benefit the voice for speaking and singing. You’ll feel very in tune with your voice after this workshop!

I joined Funky around the age of 12/13 and was training with Katie and the team until the age of 18, when I left for drama school. I went to LIPA and graduated in 2019. After leaving LIPA I joined Creation Theatre’s first ever digital rep company for 6 months, performing in a number of plays including Romeo and Juliet where I played Romeo. I recently finished the Hope Mill Theatre’s production of The Wiz, playing Lord High Underling and Cover Lion/TheWiz. I am currently in rehearsals for a new musical called Say Yes to Tess, which will premier at The Leeds Playhouse before transferring to The Camden People’s Theatre. My time at Funky was invaluable, it enabled me to train in all the different disciplines of the industry to get a feel for what I wanted to pursue. Above all, the staff created a warm and friendly environment where I was able to do what I love and make some lifelong friends. I’ve really felt the continued support from the Katie and the rest of the team since leaving 6 years ago and love returning to visit/train when possible.

Vocal and Showreels

At Funky Studios we understand that as performers the ability to self-promote is more important than ever. We offer a bespoke package for professional performers to create industry standard vocal reels.

What we offer:

• 1 hour vocal session/rep consultation with vocal coach

• 2 hour recording session with musical director/producer

• Edited, mixed and mastered audio files of 4 songs

• A full audio vocal reel (sections of your four songs, mixed and edited together, ready to upload to Spotlight)

• A full video reel (your audio reel complete with your headshot and captions of your choice)

Video and audio editing of full showreels is also available on request.

Some of my best teenage memories are the experiences I had whilst training at Funky Studios. I was part of the first Studio group and it’s where I learnt all the skills I have today in Musical Theatre performance and singing. I have always wanted to perform and this was the place where I met like minded people who were just as passionate about learning and honing our craft. Katie believed in me from day one and instilled a drive in me which I still have to this day - it’s the same reason I continue to have private singing lessons with her; there is always more to learn and skills to develop. With every lesson I feel my confidence and ability grow. The room that Katie creates is one full of encouragement, knowledge and positivity - the perfect environment to achieve your goals in. I trained in Acting for 3 years at LIPA and am now a working actor who has toured theatres both the UK and internationally, most recently across America. I have a passion for reimagined classical texts, Shakespeare and contemporary Musical Theatre.

Training at Funky Studios remains some of the most inspirational and exciting professional development that I have received. It ignited my passion to perform and taught me some incredible tools and strategies to continue to work within the performing arts. Funky Studios has always pushed me to be the best performer I can be, keeping up to date with new techniques, supporting motivation when times are hard and providing some wonderful opportunities to perform. After training professionally at Bird College and working within the industry I still take 1-1 singing lessons with Katie, as her knowledge and understanding of the voice is excellent. The lessons I have learnt and training I continue to get through Funky Studios truly does keep me working and striving to be a versatile performer, which is helping me remain successful in an increasingly competitive industry.
