Daniel Salmon
Training: PPA - Acting for Stage and Screen

“I remember so distinctly watching the Funky Showcase in 2013 and knowing categorically that I needed to be a part of this. The discipline and mindset that the training offers moulds its students into professional industry-ready performers. The training I received fed my ambition, my drive and my determination to succeed no matter what it took. My year on the IDSP as the Funky Studios Scholarship student was a year of personal development that triggered the biggest growth period of my life. I was equipped with the skills I needed to continue my training before finally getting into drama school. I already know I’m going to be going back during the holidays to continue my professional training. It’s the only place to seriously train in the East Midlands and I’m so, so proud to be always a part of its family.”

Lucinda Buckley
Training: Rose Bruford, Actor Musicianship

I am currently in my third year at a top drama school in the UK and I can without a doubt say that my life would look very different if I hadn’t gone to Funky Studios. The tutors at Funky Studios are what made me believe I could have a career in the arts. They give genuine support and professional training to aspiring performers and I think that is what makes them so special. I could say I was lucky to get to where I am today which is partly true, but the real truth is that Funky Studios are the people who got me there; and I am incredibly lucky to have had access to the foundation of training they offer.

Finlay Mackay
Training: Royal Scottish Conservatoire, Musical Theatre

Funky studios will always have a massive place in my heart. It provided me with the training I needed for my next steps and so much more. I was given the stepping stones I needed and I came in with training I truly don’t think you’ll find anywhere else. Not only did Funky Studios help me progress as a performer but also a person.

Alternative Progression

The training at Funky Studios can also facilitate an alternative progression journey that is beautifully enriched by performance training. Past students have progressed into teaching, writing, holiday entertainment, cruise ship performance and even gained a place at Harvard!

James Farr

James Farr was a Funky Studios student until July 2021. He knew his progression wasn’t going to take him directly into performance but he also knew that theatre was a big part of his life and one he didn’t want to completely say goodbye to. James had an incredibly successful year, not only being offered a place at Cambridge University but also gained a full scholarship to study at Harvard University in the USA! Now in his first year, Katie loves receiving messages from James, telling her about the performance opportunities he is getting involved in alongside his studies. James is a great example of how the training at Funky can still support future progression even if that is not a direct path into professional performance.
